Yasser Shabana, an Emeritus Professor of Plant Pathology at Mansoura University in Egypt, has held various significant positions throughout his distinguished career. Noteworthy roles include serving as the Program Manager of Weed Biocontrol at the University of Florida, USA, an Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Research Fellow in Germany, Scientific Advisor for the International Foundation for Science (IFS), Sweden, Member of the organizing committees of international conferences in Canada, Japan, Russia, Romania and Malaysia, a panel member in National Council of Agriculture and Food Research in Egypt and in the National Scientific Committee for academic promotions in Egyptian universities, Member of the Supreme Council of Research Excellence Centers at Mansoura University, Chair of the Higher Committee for Scientific Research Ethics at Mansoura University, and Director of Central Laboratories, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University. He has been deeply involved in academia, assuming responsibilities like the Director of the Electron Microscopy Unit and the Seed Pathology and Tissue Culture Lab at Mansoura University, where the lab is accredited according to ISO 17025-2017 standards, Editor of 20 international scientific journals (at different times), and Member of 15 international scientific societies and 7 local scientific societies. His leadership extended to being the Vice Dean for Graduate Studies, Research, and Cultural Affairs and the Chair of the Plant Pathology Department at Mansoura University. Shabana's global impact is evident through his roles as a Visiting Professor at Purdue University, USA, University of Florida, USA, and the University of Hohenheim, Germany. He was approached by international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), to provide training for researchers from African continent as an international trainer. He has been honored with numerous awards for his outstanding contributions, including the IFS/King Baudouin Award from IFS, Sweden, and the State Pioneers Award of Egypt and the State Incentive Award of Egypt in Agricultural Sciences, Alexander von Humboldt Fellow (Germany), and the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Arab Fund (Kuwait), Shoman Prize for Young Arab Scientists from Jordan, Egypt Award for Governmental Excellence (Institutional Innovation and Creativity Category) from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for inventing a bioherbicide to combat crenate broomrape within the top ten out of 64 innovations, "Best Applied Research related to water" in Egypt, Mansoura University Incentive Award, Mansoura University Award of Excellence, Mansoura University Award for Scientific Innovation (twice), Mansoura University Award of Merit, and as the Department Chair "Best Scientific Department" in Mansoura University in the field of life sciences. Participated in 30 international and local research projects inside and outside Egypt with a total funding of more than 2.7 million Euro. He is Elected Member of 3 Executive Committees of American Societies. Prof. Shabana is a Coordinator of 4 Memorandums of Understanding with the University of Florida, USA; University of Hertfordshire, UK; University of Naples Federico II, Italy; and Tashkent Agricultural University, Uzbekistan. He is Coordinator of establishing the Plant Clinic Diploma. Prof. Shabana is Invited Speaker at 10 American and European Universities and Research Institutes. He honored a biographical record in Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering®, Marquis Who’s Who in America®, and Marquis Who’s Who in the World. He is an inventor of two United States Patents. With a prolific research record, Shabana has published over 160 articles in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, solidifying his reputation as a respected figure in the field of plant pathology.
