Dr. Zerihun Girma obtained his PhD at the University of Buea (Cameroon) in 2016 with a thesis on habitat use, diet and conservation of mountain nyala and Menelik’s bushbuck in Arsi Mountains National park, Ethiopia. Since 2010, he has been working at Wondo Genet College lecturing courses such as Mammalogy, Animal Behavior, Wildlife Ecology, Wildlife Habitat Management, Research Methods, People and Wildlife and Restoration Ecology for graduate and under graduate students. He has been involved in research on ecology (both plant and animal), conservation, and sustainable utilization of biodiversity/wildlife resources. He has supervised over 15 M.Sc. students and is currently advising 10 M.Sc. students in the area of eco-tourism, mammals and birds ecology, wildlife habitat ecology and ethnobiology. He has been awarded international fellowship and research grants including: European Union Intra-Acp Academic Mobility PhD Scholarship (2012 to 2015), International Foundation for Science research grant (2014 to 2015), Mohamed Bin Zayed Endangered Species Conservation Fund (2014), and Ethiopian Wolf Conservation Program research grant (2008). He has published peer-reviewed papers on ecology of birds and mammals, ethnobotany and plant ecology. In addition he has been involved in community outreach programs such as providing technical advising for community based sustainable wildlife utilization namely establishing civet farm and also proving technical trainings for wildlife experts |
